Case Study
The purpose of Morehead-Cain Foundation’s comprehensive approach to education is to transform promising students at UNC-Chapel Hill into purpose-driven leaders. Yet their digital presence told only part of that powerful story.
While prospective scholars, parents, and their counselors struggled to find clear application information, the Morehead-Cain faced a deeper challenge: communicating that they are far more than a scholarship. Their previous website failed to showcase the vibrant community of leaders they've cultivated over decades or articulate their vision for reimagining education beyond traditional metrics. For an organization dedicated to identifying and nurturing tomorrow's change-makers, this misalignment between mission and message was limiting their impact.
We partnered with the Morehead-Cain Foundation team to create a digital experience that truly reflects their multifaceted role in education. The redesigned platform balances 75 years of tradition with cutting-edge innovation, creating distinct yet interconnected pathways for their diverse audiences. We developed a suite of interactive global impact maps that visualize the Morehead-Cain's worldwide network of scholars and alumni, along with the transformative summer experiences of current scholars. Throughout the project, we worked closely with the UNC compliance team to ensure the site met WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, making the Morehead-Cain experience truly accessible to all users.
- Intuitive navigation and site architecture helping prospective students, parents, and counselors quickly determine eligibility and next steps
- Full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance achieved at launch through partnership with UNC's accessibility experts, ensuring equal access for users with disabilities
- Dynamic content highlighting scholar stories and the lifelong connections that extend beyond graduation

The interactive global impact maps visualize Morehead-Cain's worldwide reach. Users are able to explore where alumni are making an impact and where current scholars are completing their summer experiences.
Year-in-review data comes to life through geographically-organized visualizations, global perspectives, and professional experiences of current scholars.

The accessible design maintains visual sophistication while meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards. All users, regardless of ability, can fully engage with the Morehead-Cain experience.
The new Morehead-Cain website transforms how prospects, scholars, alumni, and partners engage with the program. Through intuitive navigation, data-rich visualizations, and accessible design, the platform empowers the Morehead-Cain to fulfill their purpose: challenge emerging leaders to seize their education and positively impact the University, state, nation, and world.
